  2. Waterproof to 50 metres: Showerable
  3. Waterproof to 100 metres: swimming & snorkelling
  4. Scuba diving? You can do so with a watch that is waterproof from 200 metres and above
  5. Waterproof with ISO certification: suitable for deep-sea diving

Reading the above headline, you might think that you can tell how waterproof the watch is by looking at the watch. After all, it is often written on the watch how waterproof it is, and the specifications of most watch brands also state how far you can take it underwater, right? Right! Your watch will definitely state how waterproof it is. But we will tell you right away that there is a big chance your watch is not as waterproof as you might think....

1. Watches waterproof up to 30 metres: Splashproof

Does it say on your watch, for example, that it is waterproof up to 30 metres (3 atmosphere/3 bar)? Then you might think you can safely take a splash in the pool with your timepiece. Unfortunately: nothing could be further from the truth! You can NOT swim with a watch that is waterproof to 30 metres. In fact, with this watch you are not even allowed to shower.

A watch that is waterproof up to 30 metres is actually only splash-proof. A shower of rain, it can withstand, but nothing more.

2. Waterproof up to 50 metres: you can shower with it

With a watch that is waterproof up to 50 metres (5 atmosphere/5 bar), you should not think you can go snorkelling or diving with it. You can take a shower with this watch, but if you go swimming with it, there is a good chance that the inner movement will go swimming too. So don't!

3. Waterproof watch up to 100 metres: swimming & snorkelling

And what about a watch that is waterproof up to 100 metres (10 atmosphere/10 bar)? Shouldn't you be able to dive with it? Well, no. Don't, it's not waterproof enough for that. You can swim with it but you cannot go metres under water with it.

4. Diving? You can do that with a watch that is waterproof from 200 metres

You can go metres under water with a watch that says it is waterproof up to 200 metres (20ATM/20 bar). You should be able to dive with this kind of watch. Not to mention deep-sea diving because these models are not just suitable for that.
