Do you have a Citizen watch with an Eco-Drive movement and is it not charging or not fully charging? Have you already put the watch under a lamp for hours and the power indicator still shows that your watch is not fully charged? If so, your Citizen watch (contrary to what you might think) is not necessarily defective. But what could be going on? We'll explain that to you here. But before you read on, we'll tell you: charging takes longer than you think!
A Citizen Eco-Drive is a state-of-the-art piece of technology that uses a light-sensitive cell to convert (solar) light into energy and stores it in a small battery. Sunlight works fastest but artificial light is also sufficient to power the watch.
Of course, it varies per model and movement, but with most Citizen watches with an E660 movement, you can check how much energy the watch still has as follows:
The power indications at the different calibres have a segment display. If the pointer in the upper segment is in the middle, the watch is fully charged. This means that the indication does not strike the very top, but remains in the middle of the segment.
If the watch is almost completely empty, the second hand will indicate this: it no longer ticks per second but per 2 whole seconds. You can also see from the power indicator that the battery is almost empty. The watch is in 'insufficient charge warning' mode. If you are unlucky, the watch will stop within 3 days.
A Citizen Eco-Drive has a decent power reserve after it has been charged. A watch with a Citizen Miyota E660 movement has power once charged for as much as 7-10 months.

Is your Citizen watch completely discharged, has it (almost) no energy left? Then you will have to charge the watch. The best way to do this is to put the watch in the sunlight. But how long do you need to charge the watch? Well, quite a long time! Take a look at the overview below from the manual of the widely used Citizen Miyota E660 Eco-Drive timepiece.

You get the idea: If you want to give the watch enough energy to use it normally, you will have to put it in the light for a while. Once properly charged, an Eco-Drive is a great timepiece, no more battery changes and a good alternative to an automatic watch.
Do you have an older watch and have already put it in the light indefinitely but it still has zero comma zero energy? Then it is not unwise to find a watchmaker or contact Citizen service. Perhaps the rechargeable battery is defective.
