As an official Versace dealer, WatchXL guarantees 100% authenticity. We often get asked, ‘Are your Versace watches real?’—and we get it. Few things are worse than spending your hard-earned money on a luxury timepiece, only to discover it’s a counterfeit.
Versace stands for prestige and Italian craftsmanship, but like all top brands, it faces imitation. So how do you spot a fake? In this Watch News, we break down the key differences between a genuine Versace and a replica.
It all starts with checking the shop/webshop where you are going to buy your Versace watch. Are you dealing with a dodgy shop with no seals of approval or has bad or no reviews? Then be careful. It is also useful to check the contact address, does the merchant have a contact address on the site at all? Check this and possibly Google the seller to find out what is mentioned about this Versace shop.
Do you have doubts about certain things like the authenticity of a watch before your purchase? Call the seller or email the shop and ask specific questions. For example, what all comes with the watch. Think about original watch boxes, guarantee cards or booklets and certificates of authenticity. You will then find out right away whether the seller is serious and whether you can get in touch.
Have you received a Versace watch and wonder if it is genuine? An original Versace watch always comes in a luxury Versace box with a certificate of authenticity. The Versace logo is clearly printed on the box. Versace packaging is always very well done with a nice box (there are a number of types in circulation) that are either white with gold colour, all gold colour or in some cases black in colour.
Each Versace comes in an attractive and sleekly finished watch box. Often white with gold, sometimes all-gold.
The packaging should feel sturdy and high-quality, with the Versace logo clearly visible and not crooked or off-centre. Also check that the manual and warranty card are present and that the information on it is correct with the watch. Note here though that these days a manual is not really included, often Versace refers to an online manual.
Versace is known for its detailed finishing. The Versace logo on the watch - often the iconic Medusa head - should be razor-sharp and perfectly centred. With Versace, this also looks very neat. Also note the engravings such as Greek Greca: on a genuine Versace watch, these are deeply and precisely engraved, while fake watches often have a less sharp and irregular finish.

An original Versace watch is made of high-quality materials such as stainless steel, sapphire crystal and Swiss movements. A watch with steel strap and reasonable case diameter of around 44 mm feels quite heavy. Relatively heavy compared to cheaper imitations, which are often made of lighter and less durable materials.
Versace uses quality Swiss or Japanese movements, which provide a smooth seconds hand movement (on automatic models) or a clear, precise tick (on quartz models). In fake watches, the second hand often moves jerkily or does not run quite smoothly.
Every genuine Versace watch has a unique serial number on the back. Each Versace watch also comes with a CLG verification card containing a code that allows you to check its authenticity via the official website or at an authorised dealer to see if it is registered. Only authorised dealers can provide these CLG cards with a watch. If you find a watch without this kind of detail on the back, for example an almost empty watch cover, alarm bells should go off!
On the back of a watch there are always details such as serial numbers and production numbers. The type number is also on the back, e.g. VEV600619 depending on the model.
Want to be 100% sure you are buying an original Versace watch? Then do so from an authorised jeweller or through an official Versace dealer such as WatchXL.com. Be careful with online marketplaces or unknown sellers who lure with extremely low prices - if something looks too good to be true, it often is!
A Versace watch is an investment in luxury and quality. By paying close attention to the packaging, logo, weight, movement of the hands and serial number, you can distinguish an original from an imitation. Always buy from reliable sellers to avoid disappointment and enjoy a genuine piece of Italian craftsmanship!
